Data Scientist

Dr Uno Fang

Uno Fang completed his Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) in 2017 and his PhD in Information Technology in 2022, both from Deakin University. His PhD research topic was “Smart Agriculture: Advancements on Plant Disease Detection with Big Data and Deep Learning”, and his research interests are applied artificial intelligence, image processing, deep learning, and data science.

From Jan 2018 to June 2019, he worked as a software engineer on an NHMRC project grant at the Deakin University Faculty of Health, developing an online health course web application for Victorian secondary school students. From May to October 2022, he worked as an intern data scientist at Medigrowth Australia, where he led a commercial data science project about customers using Medigrowth medicinal cannabis products.

He commenced the role of data scientist at CIDS in January 2023, where he is currently working on the Automated Fish Identification (AFID) project, using his computer vision and machine learning skills to further develop the AFID digital assistant.
