Overview
Validating and commercialising innovative technologies is a key challenge for Western Australia’s emerging space sector. While the State is home to a growing number of space start-ups, many face difficulties in aligning their offerings with national market standards, refining their value propositions and position themselves competitively in a fast-moving industry. There was a clear need to provide these ventures with practical guidance, structured frameworks and mentorship to help move from concept stage to market-ready business models.
The Curtin Institute for Data Science, through Australian Space Data Analysis Facility, collaborated with the National Space Industry Hub and Cicada Innovations to design and deliver a two-day intensive workshop. The workshop was facilitated by Tim Parsons, a recognised expert in deep tech commercialisation and space innovation. The program guided participants to identify their ideal customers and understand their needs, map the competitive landscape, test their value proposition, explore practical pathways to market, develop business models and craft clear stories to pitch ideas and products.
The workshop provided participants with personalised guidance and feedback, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to advance their technologies toward commercial readiness. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of industry problems their research could address, improved their ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and acquired practical skills to access funding opportunities. The structured approach ensured that start-ups could translate their technical innovations into viable, market ready solutions.
The workshop also showcased the Institute’s capabilities in program design for technical and innovation focused industries, workshop delivery including planning, facilitation and stakeholder management and partnership coordination.
