Overview
The Australian Data Science Network (ADSN), administered by the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Centre for Data Science and driven by its member organisations, aims to connect Australia’s data science expertise to enhance communication, collaboration, expand opportunities and promote collective capabilities. The ADSN’s annual conference aligns with these goals by raising awareness of Australian data science capacities, encouraging national and international engagement and promoting ethical, diverse and innovative practices.
In 2024, the Curtin Institute for Data Science (CIDS) successfully hosted the 3rd ADSN Conference at Curtin University Bentley Campus in Perth, Western Australia, bringing together a large and diverse group of Australia’s leading data scientists, researchers, industry leaders and experts for a dynamic three-day event.
CIDS curated a comprehensive program across two venues: the TL Robertson Library (Curtin University) and The Hub at Bentley Technology Park. Day 1 and 2 focused on data science in academia, featuring keynote speakers, panel discussions and poster presentations with networking breaks and sundowner. Day 3 emphasised industry engagement, with sessions led by industry leaders and further networking opportunities to bridge academia and industry with optional visits to the Curtin HIVE and Pawsey Supercomputing Centre.
The conference successfully concluded, with close to 140 attendees joining from all around Australia. Supported by sponsors like the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC), the conference complemented existing data science initiatives while bringing together the leading minds in one place.
