Kylie Black
Kylie holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Music and a Graduate Diploma in Information and Library Studies.
She worked at the State Library of Western Australia for several years before joining the University of Western Australia Library, where she supported research in Science, and Health and Medical Sciences.
During that time, Kylie developed a keen interest in research data and particularly the management of sensitive data. To pursue that interest, she undertook a two-year secondment to the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC), where she supported the 13 projects in the Bushfire Data Challenges program, including making their outputs operate under the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) and planning for impact.
Kylie joined the CIDS in 2024 through its partnership with the ARDC as a Research Data Specialist with expertise in sensitive data. She leads the Australian Sensitive Data Interest Group and provides sensitive data expertise to ARDC projects and the Australian research community.
Her key competencies and research interests include:

•Creating and Maintaining Sensitive Data Classification Schemes and Tracking Institutional Variance
•Researching Data Citation Practices and Tracking Impact
